Description

Auction Location: Mirranatwa Recreational Hall.

1190 ac – 481.6ha

Located at the head of the Victoria Valley in the heart of the Grampians in Victoria's western district, Barrahead is one of the earliest Pastoral runs in the state of Victoria being first taken up as the Victoria Valley Run by Thomas Woolley in 1838. Following a quick succession of occupiers including James Unett and Henry Dwyer, the head station was moved to its present site following the transfer of the run to Thomas Robertson and sons in 1855. The current vendors have been actively involved in the Victoria Valley since 1857 and have owned Barrahead since 1919.

The homestead (circa 1859) is a symmetrical single story building constructed in the Georgian style of local stone. Comprising four bedrooms, office, lounge room, large kitchen and glorious sunroom the home is in excellent condition throughout. A second home as well a full range of station improvements including a recently renovated woolshed complement the property.

Within the property boundaries lies one of the largest privately wetland reserves existing in the district. With approximately 80ac of ephemeral swamp, this area provides a unique opportunity to provide habitat to a wide range of bird species within a natural environment.

Barrahead is well suited to a range of agricultural pursuits including wool and sheep meat production, cattle grazing and cropping. The property is currently leased until early 2021 (excluding homestead, managers cottage and immediate surrounds).
