Peter McConachy is one of the most respected and accomplished figures in Victoria's livestock industry, having dedicated almost five decades to Charles Stewart & Co and the advancement of livestock marketing throughout the state.

Peter commenced his career with Charles Stewart & Co in 1978 as a Livestock Agent and Auctioneer. His leadership abilities and commitment to achieving outstanding results for clients quickly became evident, leading to his appointment as Livestock Manager in 1979 and subsequently a Director of Charles Stewart & Co in 1980.

Renowned for his auctioneering expertise, Peter has built a career on a simple but unwavering principle: the role of an auctioneer is to achieve the best possible outcome and maximum return for every client. This philosophy, combined with his professionalism, reliability, honesty and approachable nature, has earned him the trust and respect of generations of livestock producers.

Beyond his work with clients, Peter has made a significant contribution to the livestock and agency profession. In 1990, he joined the Board of the Victorian Stock Agents Association, where he played an influential role in supporting and developing future industry leaders. Peter was also a coordinator of the Association's highly regarded Auctioneering Schools, conducting training programs in Dandenong, Bendigo and Wodonga. Through these courses, he helped equip many young stock agents with the skills and confidence required to succeed in the industry.

In recognition of his long-standing service and contribution, Peter was awarded Life Membership of the Australian Livestock & Property Agents Association (ALPA) in 2004.

After seeing the concept used up north Peter founded Southern Central Bulk Billing Centre, which he has been the Chairman for 17 years only recently stepping back, but still continues to be a director today.

Today, Peter continues to serve as a Director of Charles Stewart & Co, working alongside his son, Jamie McConachy, and remains a valued mentor to the next generation of stock agents and auctioneers. His wealth of knowledge, practical experience and willingness to guide others have helped shape many successful careers within the industry.

Away from the saleyards, Peter is equally committed to giving back to his community. He serves on the Board of the Winchelsea Bowls Club and remains an active player, contributing both his leadership and enthusiasm to the local sporting community.
