DARAGA HOMESTEAD FOR SALE
The historical Daraga homestead located in Whoorel south-east of Birregurra is being offered for sale along with 42 acres of grazing land.
It is unknown when the home was originally built but it is assumed to have been constructed in the late 1800s. Based on newspaper clippings, the Armytage family farmed the land in the early 1900’s.
Newspaper excerpts confirm that grazier G. Armytage farmed sheep and cattle throughout the 1910s on account of Daraga.
The Brien family then purchased Daraga in approximately 1920 and farmed the land until the 1950s before it was once again sold.
The home needs major repair with some restumping having already taken place. Offering 12 main rooms, high ceilings, lath and plaster walls and an underground cellar, the home is filled with the character of yesteryear.
The homestead is oriented to the north and is complemented by a wraparound veranda with original images showing a picket fence and cottage garden surrounding the home and established trees to the rear.
The repair project would be perfectly placed to feature in an episode of ABC’s Restoration Australia as the new occupiers return this homestead to its former grandeur.
Uninterrupted views span the Otway foothills with Lorne only 30 minutes away and a mere five minutes from Birregurra and the world-renowned Brae Restaurant.
