RENOVATED DELIGHT
A former Colac milk bar has been given a new lease thanks to ex-Colac resident Tyson Sheedy, who had always dreamed of converting an old red brick shop front into a dwelling.
After looking for the ideal listing in Tasmania, it turned out the perfect property was sitting under Tyson’s nose the entire time.
“It was pretty funny because probably ten years ago I rode past 26 Ligar Street on my bike and took a photo and sent it to Bonney who’s my partner and then it popped up for sale so it was a must-have,” Tyson said.
It wasn’t long before Tyson’s builder got started on the extensive renovation with Tyson coordinating the process from his home in Queensland.
“We had a good builder and I live in Queensland and the way we set it up was he did a week’s work and put in an invoice and we pay it on the Friday, and he was really good. That was Wazza’s Carpentry and he was really good,” Tyson said.
The renovation process included fully rebuilding the internal zone, levelling the flooring and lifting the ceiling height.
A third bedroom was added and the floorplan was reconfigured moving the kitchen forward and turning the original kitchen into a bedroom.
Residents can enjoy an open-plan kitchen and living zone and allow the outdoors in by opening the large north-facing sliding doors.
The original exposed brick walls have been sandblasted and restored to their former glory and are complemented by the all-black cabinetry and tiling in the kitchen.
“The laundry was in the bathroom and we just made it so the bathroom is separate and there’s now a little walk-thru laundry just tucked away,” Tyson said.
The entire project could not have happened without the many local trades Tyson called upon.
“The local trades, in a very busy environment were very good. We used Trav Holt to do the plumbing, Ben Cox for plastering, Sam Jamieson was the sparky and Brian Inglis painted, they’ve been a good crew,” Tyson said.
The property is currently listed for rent with Charles Stewart’s property management team at $460 per week, including garden maintenance.
