Colac’s thriving community and business scene encouraged former resident Jodi Leahy, founder of beauty house Miss Kit to open her doors at 133 Murray Street.
Initially opening eight years ago as a training college for beauty therapy and hairdressing, Leahy would split her time between teaching and completing treatments to stay abreast of industry skills and knowledge. It wasn’t long before the salon outgrew the college, with a total of 15 staff now employed across the Warrnambool and Colac salons and five of those servicing Colac.
“Miss Kit Warrnambool has been hugely successful and I was looking for a new challenge. With Colac being my old home town, combined with the thriving community and business scene, the opportunity to expand here seemed perfect,” said Leahy.
Understanding the market and tailoring an approach to suit what Colac residents were looking for was important to Leahy.
“I feel my business offers a range of treatments that weren’t already offered in Colac, including laser and skin treatments. We have received an overwhelming response for these and I’m glad the community no longer have to travel to receive these treatments,” said Leahy.
With Colac and the surrounding region fast becoming a destination for food, retail and beauty, Leahy set out to secure a shopfront in Murray Street’s charming ‘strip’. When speaking to existing shop owners along the strip prior to securing the lease, Leahy was assured of its positive vibe and bustling nature.
“There are a gorgeous bunch of shops all around me and it has a lovely boutique feel,” Leahy said.
